Bell-Jeff Class of 1966 -- 50th Reunion Information

Date:   Weekend of October 14, 15 and 16, 2016 (Friday, Saturday and Sunday)

Location:  Marriott Hotel in Burbank (on Hollywood Way, across from Burbank Airport).  We have a hospitality suite reserved for Friday and Saturday, so we can gather and meet with friends -- but don't plan to bunk in the suite!

Payment:  $125 fee per person, all-in.  We won't pro-rate fees if you want to just come for one evening, or just want to stop by the suite to say hello.  If you attend at all, you must pay the $125 fee so we can manage our costs.

Payment deadline is July 15, 2016.

The $125 fee includes the following:
  • Use of the hotel suite and the food and drinks on Friday and Saturday (heavy appetizers, coffee, water, soft drinks, beer, wine, and liquor)
  • A buffet dinner on Saturday night in a hotel banquet room.
Any other activities during the weekend will be in addition to the $125 per person fee, and attendance is optional for each classmate.

How to Pay:  For MasterCard, Visa or PayPal payments you can click on the Pay Now button on the right.  You do not need to have a PayPal account to pay with a credit card.  Once you click the button, you can choose which type of payment you want:

If you want to pay by check, make it payable to Stephanie Denny and mail to:

Dress:  No one wants to dress up anymore, so this will be a casual weekend --including the Saturday night buffet dinner.  The only exception is the Sunday brunch at Oakmont Country Club -- you can still dress casual, but no jeans at the country club.

Staying at the Marriott?  We have arranged a block of rooms at the Marriott Hotel with a special rate of $159+tax+parking.  The normal rate for the Marriott Burbank is around $200+tax+parking per night.   If you need a room reservation, call the Marriott Burbank Airport at (818)843-6000
, and tell them you're with the Bell-Jeff Class of '66 Reunion. There are just a few rooms left at this special rate, so call soon if you need a reservation.  The hotel will require a credit card to reserve a room, but they won't charge you until the end of your stay.

Weekend Events
The weekend events outside of the hotel are described below are optional, and you will pay for them separately.

Friday
The suite will be open at 3:00 pm on Friday, October 14 through Saturday night (time unknown -- maybe all night, but don't plan to bunk there!)  Classmates may use the suite to visit with others informally, and snacks/drinks will be provided.  NO DINNER is provided on Friday night, but you are free to go somewhere else for dinner, maybe with a small group of friends.  (Many of the eateries you were familiar with are still alive and well: Bob’s Big Boy in Toluca Lake, Santoro’s Sandwiches, Giamela’s Subs, Martino’s Bakery, Pinocchio’s Italian Restaurant, Chili John’s, etc.)

Saturday
Saturday is Homecoming for Bell-Jeff, and we know some of you might want to participate in those events.  We may start with a Saturday morning breakfast, location TBD and at your own expense.  Saturday afternoon we could visit the school, and some will head to the game (time and location TBD).  Others may choose to do something else, like tour our old haunts in Burbank.  Then we'll all gather back together Saturday evening in a hotel banquet room, beginning at 6:00pm.  Even though our dinner will be in a banquet room, dress will be informal.

Sunday
Diane Potter has graciously arranged a brunch for us at the Oakmont Country Club  as the finale to our 50th Reunion weekend. The cost of the brunch will be $45.00 cash, and it includes valet parking.  Cash payments only -- no credit cards or checks.

Other Information
If you plant to fly into Burbank for the reunion, the Marriott has a shuttle to get you to the hotel.  We'll help you arrange transportation to the other events, but you may want to arrange your own with friends who live in the area.  We won't leave you stranded!  Several of us will have cars. (And some of us are Uber drivers in order to supplement Social Security.)

If you don't fly much, the sooner you can book airline reservations, the better the rate you'll get.  You don't need to do it yet, but it's best to book those reservations at least a month in advance.  Southwest Airlines, which services most of the West and many Eastern cities as well, is a really good airline to choose.  They don't have baggage fees, and they don't have cancellation/change fees.  Instead, if you have to cancel, they give you a full credit that can be used for another flight within a year.

Next Steps

  • Check out this page from time to time for reunion updates, as well as our Facebook page.
  • Start collecting photos and other memorabilia. Do you still have your class ring?  Who has photos?  Who has scrapbooks?
  • Collect any photos you may have from high school and scan them.  You can send them to belljeff66reunion@gmail.com.   If you don't have a way to scan them, mail them to Stephanie Quinn Denny.  She will scan them and mail the originals back to you.  We'd like to use the photos for a special slide show to re-live some of those old times.

In Memory of Paul Mellon

Sad news:  Marguerite Moore Mellon notified her family that Paul Mellon died on Wednesday, July 8 of a stroke. She said that services are pending. We will update when we have more information.  Thanks to Kathie Moore for passing this along.

Memories of Paul -- may he rest in peace.

Paul Mellon #30

That's Paul at the lower left.  Remember the pyramid?

The last time I saw Paul was at our 40th class reunion in October 2006.  I did get a photo of him that night:
